Expertises

Les enfants sont exposés à plusieurs contaminants de l’environnement (p. ex. les BPC, les insecticides, le bisphénol A) qui se retrouvent dans la poussière, dans la nourriture, dans l’eau et même dans le lait maternel. Certains de ces contaminants sont susceptibles de perturber le développement normal de l’enfant, incluant le développement du cerveau et du système immunitaire de l’enfant, ce qui peut entraîner des effets néfastes à long terme. Il est donc primordial d’estimer l’exposition des enfants aux différents contaminants, d’identifier leurs effets et de déterminer les façons dont les enfants sont exposés afin d’établir des stratégies pour réduire les expositions en bas âge. Le programme de recherche de Marc André Verner, qui  recoupe les domaines de la toxicologie et de l’épidémiologie environnementale, vise à élaborer des modèles mathématiques pour estimer l’exposition des enfants à plusieurs contaminants et de les mettre à contribution pour évaluer le risque lié aux expositions en bas âge.
