Expertises

Mes domaines de recherche portent sur le rôle des facteurs environnementaux dans l’étiologie du cancer et le pronostic du cancer. Plus précisément, j’étudie les expositions environnementales coutumières qui peuvent être modifiées afin de prévenir l’apparition du cancer.  Pour ce, mes sources d’informations sont les diètes alimentaires (amines aromatiques hétérocycliques (AHA), et hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques (HAP)), les habitudes de vie et les occupations professionnelles (pesticides, gaz d’échappement des moteurs à essence et talc). Conjointement, ma recherche examine le rôle possible des habitudes de vie et facteurs comportementaux, comme l’activité physique et l’exposition à la vitamine D, dans la prévention du cancer et l’amélioration du pronostic des patients après un diagnostic de cancer. Mes champs d’intérêt du cancer comprennent le côlon, les poumons, les ovaires et le cerveau. Mon programme de recherche, organisé en trois thèmes et objectifs, leurs sont tous reliés:

Thème 1: Identification et caractérisation des habitudes de vie et facteurs environnementaux modifiables dans l’étiologie du cancer 

Objectif : Étudier le rôle des habitudes de vie et facteurs environnementaux sur le risque de développer un cancer, dans le but ultime d’informer sur des stratégies futures de prévention du cancer

Thème 2: Emploie d’une approche épidémiologique moléculaire pour étudier la relation entre les habitudes de vie et facteurs environnementaux, et de l’étiologie du cancer 

Objectif : Compléter le thème #1, tout en informant sur les mécanismes sous-jacents de la cancérogenèse grâce à l’utilisation de biomarqueurs d’exposition et d’indicateurs de résultats intermédiaires. De plus, identifier les sous-populations génétiquement susceptibles en examinant les interactions gène-environnement

Thème 3 : Examen du rôle des habitudes de vie et facteurs environnementaux modifiables en rapport au pronostic du cancer

Objectif : Apporter des connaissances sur le rôle des facteurs modifiables dans le pronostic du cancer, afin d’ultimement, permettre aux patients atteints du cancer de prendre en charge leur santé et d’améliorer leur pronostic par le maintien ou l’adoption d’habitudes de vie saines

En plus de ces domaines de recherche, je procède également à l’évaluation de la qualité des diètes parmi les participants de la cohorte CARTaGENE, ainsi qu’à la détermination des prédicteurs de niveaux de vitamine D sérique pour des femmes en santé à Montréal. Ces deux projets contribuent à mon intérêt pour le développement et l’application d’outils méthodologiques afin d’améliorer les évaluations d’expositions dans les études épidémiologiques.
